Le Corbusier's real name was Charles-Edouard Jeanneret. He took his professional name (borrowed from his maternal grandfather) when he founded an architectural practice in Paris with his cousin, Pierre#Before becoming an architect, Le Corbusier trained as an engraver and goldsmith#Le Corbusier became a French citizen in 1930#When he was 77 years old, in 1964, Le Corbusier declared that "The dreams of my twenties will be realized in three hundred years"#Le Corbusier was determined to redesign Paris. Between 1912 and 1960 he produced many plans, all of which were rejected#Le Corbusier dreamed of creating a whole city. He was given the chance in 1950, with the new state capital at Chandigarh, in India. It was a disaster, a city designed for an industrial civilization but built in an agrarian society
